Codebase

Codebase is a co-working space located in the CODE Building in Downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. It offers a collaborative and vibrant office environment, with amenities designed to serve a diverse community of entrepreneurs and business professionals. Iconograph was contracted to create a brand package that integrated seamlessly with the brand and materials we had created for the overall CODE Building.

Building the Brand

During the initial discovery phase, we learned more about the vision behind Codebase—to encourage entrepreneurial activities that seek to create positive social impact in the community. The brand needed to embody the expansive and communal feel of the space. It also needed to evoke the energy and variety of the office’s range of professionals, from solo freelancers to established tech companies looking to build their team.

Color & Type

The color palette evokes the lively energy of the space while integrating into the sophisticated aesthetic of the CODE Building’s identity. The custom monospaced letterforms of the Codebase wordmark were designed to fit seamlessly with the CODE Building logo. The letters’ mathematical proportions and spacing further hint to the personality and program of the building by nodding to the work of developers—monospaced fonts are often used for writing code because of their high legibility.

The geometry of the Codebase mark encourages endless configuration, from simple combinations to large abstract patterns, all working together to contribute to the overarching character of the space.
